Course description The programme is designed for people working in the pig house design, farm managers and people working in advisory services. The programme contains assignments on farm level, applied lectures and practical training, leading to the correct lay out of a farm house for your local situation. This will lead to improved technical/economic results. This requires insight in the housing -, climate control- and feeding systems applicable for your situation. This implies that one should be aware of applicable production standards and using them in an appropriate way. Knowledge on farm lay-out and theory of climate control and feeding systems is also necessary to draw conclusions concerning the optimal performance of the farm. The focus also implies that one should be a discussion partner for stakeholders like managers, technical sales staff and constructors. (understand, advice and optimize in different professional situations). A technical lay-out plan for a pig farm is written.
Study subjects The study is including theoretical and practical subjects related to: • Pig farm lay-out • feeding systems for pig farms • Housing systems for pig farms • Climate control systems • Economic implementation on farm • Excursions to relevant suppliers of equipment • Nutritional aspects • Manure treatment systems • Project development training
Course objectives The student is able to operate as an advisor, trainer or manager/entrepreneur in pig husbandry. Propose improvements for farm lay-out, feeding -, climate control – and housing systems based on acquired skills and knowledge. Students knows how to contact relevant suppliers of equipment.
