Course summary The DAE Bachelor focuses on your personal talent and reflecting on the world around you. By working beyond fixed disciplines and thinking-through-making, our Bachelor offers freedom whilst forming.
Course description Design does not just involve tangible matters. It tackles the world in the broadest sense, from individual revolution to global innovation. To become a self-sustainable designer, we offer our students a platform to develop. Studying at Design Academy Eindhoven means getting some hard work done, developing your own methods, and finding out where your strength lies. We join you to find the thing that makes you authentic, as it is our belief that the only way you can make a difference is by being yourself. At the same time, we encourage you to question the world around you; to be curious; experiment; to reflect and discuss; to explore. Thinking-through-making is an important aspect our Bachelor courses – designing an end-product as you go. By stepping past boundaries of conventions, disciplines, methods and materials, you can create new ways to perceive – and to design alternative approaches to existing problems. The mix of freedom and guidance shapes our Bachelor course. The first year sets the foundation with general forming. From year two to four, by choosing a focal point in the second year, you start developing your personal design signature for your final graduation project.
Study subjects Everyone starts with the general forming year; students follow their natural curiosity and drive to reflect upon their surroundings, discovering more about their identities along the way. In year 2, students choose a design department that gives direction to their designs. Year 3 offers Minors and the choice between internship and exchange. 4th year students focus on their graduation project.
Course objectives The DAE Bachelor shapes independent designers, whose conceptual qualities can offer alternatives to complex issues. Starting from personal talent, drive and curiosity, and by reflecting on the world around you, the course guides students to step outside the borders of traditional disciplines and rethink production processes, create new materials and form new ideas to offer the world.

About the institution

Department Design Academy Eindhoven
Information about the institution At Design Academy Eindhoven we educate designers in the broadest sense of the word. We don’t teach our students – we are a platform for development. In our opinion, a design course should involve a lot of freedom – it should encourage the individual to be curious, to experiment, to discuss, to criticize, and to explore. Thinking-through-making is therefore an important aspect of all our courses – designing an end-product as you go. To stimulate creative collaborations and professional experimentation, our courses are constructed around domains of human activity. These departments have a focal point – like space or identity – to cross the boundaries of the conventional disciplines. Within our departments, students are encouraged to use and mix knowledge, fields and production methods in the design process. Interdisciplinary working creates new ways to perceive – and thus the opportunity to design alternative approaches to existing problems.
