Course description Objective: instilling a prevention oriented way of thinking with the participants. This relates to the use of water and, thus, to the generation of wastewater but places and practices this need for prevention in the wider industrial and domestic context. Abilities after the module: to suggest options for pollution prevention within urban and industrial water management settings; assess the environmental impact of products and processes; suggest treatment/disposal methods for industrial wastewater; understand the importance of environmental monitoring of industrial processes; employ a systemic approach to water resources management. The off-line module on CPWC: a 3 weeks, full-time study with a load of approx. 140 hours resulting in 5 (European) credit points (ECTS). The off-line module contains the following subjects: • Introduction to the scientific field of Cleaner Production; • Life Cycle and Material Flow Analysis; • Environmental Management Systems; • Urban Water Management; • Industrial Water Management; • Nutrient Management
Study subjects 1. Introduction to the field of Cleaner Production (CP) 2. Life Cycle Analysis (LCA), Eco Design and Material Flow Analysis (MFA) 3. Environmental Management Systems (EMS) 4. Corporate social responsibility (CSR) 5. Industrial Water Management (IWM) 6. Water Footprint (WF) 7. Eco-industrial parks and Industrial ecology (EIP and IE)
Course objectives (i) suggest options for preventing pollution in urban and industrial settings (ii) assess the environmental impact of products and processes (iii) suggest treatment/disposal methods for industrial (iv) understand environmental management systems in the industrial context (v) indicate how the sustainable use of resources can be beneficial (vi)analyze system tools that support industrial ecology

Information about the institution IHE Delft Institute for Water Education is the largest international graduate water education facility in the world and the only institution in the UN system to confer accredited MSc degrees and promote PhDs.
