Course summary The course deals with hydrogeological mapping and well Inventories, geophysics, exploration drilling and pumping tests, geo-statistics, and quantitative and qualitative groundwater monitoring.
Course description The Groundwater Exploration and Monitoring short course of 3 week duration focuses on practical groundwater issues which hydrogeologists and other professionals in groundwater would like to master. The course discusses the key elements of the principles of Groundwater Exploration methods including hydro-geological mapping, geophysical surveys and drilling techniques, and Groundwater Monitoring involving network design and data analyses. Key lecturers to the course are Dr Y. Zhou, Ir N van der Moot and J.C. Nonner MSc who all have long standing experience in the development and application of groundwater exploration and monitoring theories. The course offers 'face to face' lectures, but class exercises and computer workshops are also a pertinent part of the course. A fieldtrip is foreseen as well.
Study subjects Study subjects: Hydro-geostatistics, Hydrogeological mapping/well inventories, Geophysical methods, Exploration drilling and logging, Pumping tests, Analysis of existing groundwater monitoring systems, Network design, Determination of sampling frequency.
Course objectives After completing the Groundwater Data Collection and Interpretation course, the participant will be able to define groundwater data collection and monitoring programs. He/she will be familiar with the field activities pertaining to groundwater data collection and monitoring, and is able to analyse the gathered data.
