Course summary This course discusses the rational of partnerships in the water sector, gives characteristics and functionalities of different partnership modalities, and explains how to succesfully manage them.
Course description The overall goal of this course is to introduce professional staff from the public sector, working in governmental departments dealing with partnerships in the water sector (including PPP's); professional staff working for supporting agencies, such as NGO’s, research centers, consultancy; professional staff in water and sanitation utilities to modern thinking and practice of dealing with institutional and management issues related to involving private parties in the water sector in a more sustainable manner.
Study subjects Partnership options, financing, best practices, trends, private and public sector perspectives, managing partnerships.
Course objectives Upon completion of the module participants will be able to.. • understand the evolution of partnerships in the water sector. • explain the different types of partnerships, including PPPs, WOPs, etc. • assess the suitability of the types of partnerships. • anticipate challenges in each stage of a partnership. • apply skills necessary for successfully manage the partnerships in different stages.

Information about the institution IHE Delft Institute for Water Education is the largest international graduate water education facility in the world and the only institution in the UN system to confer accredited MSc degrees and promote PhDs. It offers degree programmes, short courses, online courses and tailor-made training.
