Certificate / Diploma Short course Delft

Course description

Qualification Certificate
Field of study Agriculture and environment
Course summary The short course is designed to provide participants with principles and procedures of groundwater modelling and the use of computer models for groundwater resources management and protection.
Course description The short course is designed to provide participants with principles and procedures of groundwater modelling and the use of computer models for groundwater resources management and protection. The experiences of modelling will be obtained through a series of hands-on training in computer workshops. On completion of this course the participants are able • to create a groundwater model following the procedures of building a groundwater model: definition of model objectives, construction of hydrogeological conceptual models, design of numerical models, preparation of model inputs, model calibration and model application. • to use the most popular groundwater model codes: MODFLOW, PMPATH, MT3D and a graphical user interface PMWIN. • to apply groundwater models for evaluation of groundwater development scenarios, determination of capture zone of well fields and prediction of pollutant plume development.
Study subjects Groundwater Flow Modeling; Contaminant Transport Modeling; Saline Groundwater Modeling; Use of MODFLOW, MODPATH and MT3D; Workshops on Groundwater Modeling.
Course objectives Upon completion of this course, the student is: • familiar with the principles and procedures of groundwater modelling; • able to construct a groundwater model using state of the art modelling software; • able to use the model for simulation of groundwater flow, contaminant transport and salt water intrusion; • able to apply groundwater modelling techniques for groundwater resources management
