Course description The management of resources in coastal areas of the world and the hydraulic engineering works required for their development, operation and maintenance have gained an increasing importance and complexity with time. They often require -in addition to well-proven experiences and technologies adapted to local conditions- innovative solutions. Based on considerable experience accumulated in The Netherlands and under inclusion of modern approaches, IHE Delft offers a well-balanced and updated curriculum in the areas of Hydraulic Engineering - Coastal Engineering and Port Development.
Study subjects Coastal Processes; Coastal Morphology; Planning, Design and Construction of Coastal Structures and Ports; Integrated Coastal Zone Management; Coastline Management; Navigation Apects; Port Management; Environmental Impact Assessment; Geotechnical Engineering and Dredging; Flood Protection in Lowland Areas; Morphological Modeling; Climate Change in Integrated Water Management.
Course objectives To provide an advanced level of understanding of coastal processes & nautical & logistic aspects & their interactions with the nearshore & offshore structure; be able to apply sophisticated design techniques to advance the needs of society for shelter, infrastructure & a safe environment & to develop strategies to cope with problems related to coastal natural hazards & shoreline erosion problems and climate change
