Course summary This practice orientated program brings you understanding and knowledge on urban and peri-urban sanitation -especially in informal settlements- as well as the skills necessary for creating impact.
Course description While being at MSc level, the programme has a professional orientation. It is demand-driven, delivering graduates with the qualifications required by the sanitation sector. The following areas are prominent in the programme: - the linking of the taught subject matter, not only to research outcomes, but also to sanitation practice; - the nature of the individual research topics of the students; - the embedding of the development of generic professional skills in the programme. As a result, graduates will possess both the fundamental understanding, as well as the knowledge and skills necessary, to create professional impact ‘on the ground’. They will be able to apply existing knowledge and theory in practice and to contribute to the further development of knowledge in sanitation, and conduct practice-orientated field research, independently or in a multidisciplinary team.

Course objectives This practice orientated program will yield graduates with fundamental understanding and knowledge, as well as the skills necessary for creating impact. The skills development is embedded from the start, through individual coaching and tailored guidance. Preparatory courses are included. About the institution

Department IHE Delft
Information about the institution IHE Delft Institute for Water Education is the largest international graduate water education facility in the world and the only institution in the UN system to confer accredited MSc degrees and promote PhDs. It offers degree programmes, short courses, online courses and tailor-made training. Since 1957 the Institute has provided graduate education to more than 15,000 water professionals from over 160 countries. More than 175 PhD candidates were promoted. IHE Delft is at the centre of a vast international network of water related institutions, and functions as an interface between knowledge networks and centres, public and private sector organizations, scientific and professional associations and other members of the international water community. The Institute runs a substantial number of joint MSc programmes implemented in partnership with universities around the globe. These joint programmes combine the strengths of the collaborating institutions and deliver either multiple degrees or a joint degree.

Admission

Admission requirements
  1. Various years of work experience in the field of sanitation.
  2. Relevant wo bachelor (academic bachelor) BSc degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant field from a recognised university. Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least B/B+ (US System) or a classification of at least 2nd upper (UK system).
  3. Basic knowledge in chemistry, micro-biology will be tested online prior to registration.
