Course summary This course deals with aspects of water resources analysis and assessment (surface- and groundwater) with a focus on water for agricultural use.
Course description Topics covered in the course include: hydrological cycle, hydrological data analysis, evapotranspiration, crop water demand, catchment water balance, computation of flow through channels, groundwater flow analysis and groundwater assessment and development.
Study subjects Hydrological cycle, water fluxes and storages, global water resources. Surface water resources in a river basin. Groundwater resources assessment. Groundwater flow analysis. Groundwater resources development Formulation of plans for sustainable development.
Course objectives - Describe hydrological processes, interpret hydrological time series data and analyse. - Estimate evapotraspiration and water demands. - Carry out catchment water balance and computation of flows. - Identify groundwater occurrence, flow and storage, estimate recharge and compute balances. - Analyse groundwater flows in aquifers and to pumping wells. - Formulate plans for groundwater development.

Information about the institution IHE Delft Institute for Water Education is the largest international graduate water education facility in the world and the only institution in the UN system to confer accredited MSc degrees and promote PhDs. It offers degree programmes, short courses, online courses and tailor-made training. Since 1957 the Institute has provided graduate education to more than 15,000 water professionals from over 160 countries. More than 175 PhD candidates were promoted. IHE Delft is at the centre of a vast international network of water related institutions, and functions as an interface between knowledge networks and centres, public and private sector organizations, scientific and professional associations and other members of the international water community.
