Linguistics: Translation (from September 2019)

Leiden University

Master Postgraduate Leiden

Course description

Qualification Master of Arts
Field of study General programmes
Course summary The Translation in Theory and Practice specialisation of the MA in Linguistics at Leiden University is best characterised by linguistic and cultural mediation.
Course description Language and culture cannot be separated. Interpreters and translators are linguistic and cultural mediators, whether they are translating a notarial document, subtitling an episode of Game of Thrones, or translating the latest novel by Nicci French. You will learn how to translate from English to Dutch and vice versa. You will also acquire the skills to translate texts on a wide variety of topics, with a focus on one of three fascinating areas of specialised translation: legal, literary or multimedial translation. You will earn a qualification that will give you entry to the national register of sworn interpreters and translators. Leiden University's Translation master's programme is now a member of the prestigious European Masters in Translation (EMT) Network, an initiative of the European Commission's Directorate-General for Translation. Having been awarded this label reflects the high quality of our programme. Our graduates will now have even greater access to the international translation profession.
