Course summary If you specialise in History of Philosophy, your study will revolve around the development of natural philosophy and metaphysics from the late Middle Ages to early modern and modern times.
Course description -
Study subjects You will explore the development of natural philosophy and metaphysics, investigating in particular the evolution of the sciences of psychology and physics from philosophy. With your personal supervisor you will be able to shape the curriculum, and tailor it specifically to your needs and research aspirations. You will follow courses, such as, The History of Free Will: From Augustine to Kant; Aristotelianism and Embodied / Embedded Cognition; and Animate/Inanimate in (Natural) Philosophy.
Course objectives The objective of the programme is to train specialists who wish to prepare for an academic career in philosophy. Taking part in real-time research projects, joining discussions with the brightest minds in the area, and having individual guidance throughout this academic process will encourage students to develop essential assets: analysing complex issues logically and conceptually, both in discussions and in writing. You can also apply your knowledge in journalism, science policy, and politics

Admission requirements
  1. Average grade in philosophy in the 2nd and 3rd year of the Bachelors degree studies must be the equivalent of 7.5 or more (on the Dutch scale of 10. BA thesis must be the equivalent of a grade of 8 or more (on the Dutch scale of 10).
  2. A Dutch Bachelor's degree (or equivalent, from a research university) in Philosophy, as evaluated by the Examination Board.
