Course summary Fusion at the University of technology Eindhoven is the science of extreme conditions. A new generation of fusion researchers and highly qualified engineers.
Course description To realize the dream of clean and safe 'fusion energy', the science of extreme conditions – extreme temperatures of hundreds of millions degrees, extreme heat fluxes, extremely large magnetic fields, extreme complexity – must be translated into technological solutions. This background offers both challenges as well as career opportunities to Master students. To meet these complicated and diverse challenges, Fusion needs to train a new type of researcher. This unique Master's programme offers students a special educational programme that combines the diverse types of expertise needed in Fusion research and aims at delivering highly qualified engineers. The curriculum is composed in such a way that the engineers are well prepared for both a career in Fusion research as well as for the broad field of high-tech and innovative industry. Fusion-research is very internationally oriented and the TU/e Fusion students follow internships and get research experience at leading institutes all over the globe. The TU/e regularly has students located in Australia, South Korea, Japan, the USA and many European countries.
Study subjects The Fusion Master's programme has the following structure: * Compulsory program of core fusion courses (25ECTS) * Program of fusion specialization courses, selected from a menu that offers a variation of topics (15 ECTS) * Three master classes that run for a week each, which allow to dive into a specific fusion topic in more depth (5 ECTS) * Program of elective courses (15 ECTS) * Internship (15 ECTS) * Graduation project (45 ECTS) At least 15 ECTS of the internship or graduation project needs t
Course objectives The goal of the program is thus to deliver highly qualified scientists/engineers to fusion science and technology. The curriculum is set up such that it prepares its master students for a career in fusion research (obviously), but also are capable to work with excellence in a broad range of high-tech, innovative industry.
