Course summary The one-year, English-taught Environmental & Energy Management Master’s will equip you to lead, manage and govern socio-technological change processes related to energy, water and the environment.
Course description In this one-year, English-taught Master’s programme you will become an expert in the management and governance of three crucial, interrelated natural resources: the environment, energy and water. Today’s challenges – for example, climate change, resource depletion and urbanization – call for professionals able to organize, manage and lead socio-technological change. This combined focus on thinking and doing lies at the heart of the MEEM programme. A uniquely social science-oriented Master’s, the programme will provide you with knowledge, skills and competencies in disciplines like Management, Public Administration, Governance and Law. It focuses on the administrative, organizational and technical causes underlying water, environmental or energy problems – and on strategies for controlling these problems and stimulating sustainable development. We offer three specializations: Energy Management, Environmental Management or Water Governance. On graduation you will be equipped to work in multi-disciplinary business, government, consultancy or research teams and able to develop, implement, monitor and evaluate water, environmental or energy management programmes, policies and projects.
Study subjects The programme integrates business, policy and technology perspectives. The main subjects are Management; Environmental and Energy Management (incl ISO); Environmental and Energy Policy and Law; Cleaner Production and Cleaner Technologies; Renewable Energy (technologies); Corporate Social Responsibility and Stakeholders; Sustainable Development; Communication and Management Skills; Research Skills.
Course objectives The programme aims to prepare future decision-makers in companies, governments and NGOs for analysing and acting in an environmentally pro-active way when making decisions about policy, production and resources. Graduates can work as internal / external consultants, environmental or energy (project) team members, civil servants and researchers specialised in environmental and energy management.

Admission

Admission requirements
  1. Bachelor's degree in (related) natural, technical, environmental or social sciences. Other degrees when combined with relevant work experience.
  2. Recommended.
  3. Basic understanding of chemistry (high school level). Good communication skills. Interest in environmental and energy issues.
  4. At least a Bachelor's degree in a related discipline in the natural, technical, environmental or social sciences (if applicable, 2nd class or higher).
