Course summary This Research Master's programme approaches the wide range of media and performance that we encounter in our contemporary culture from a comparative perspective.
Course description This Research Master's programme in Media, Art and Performance Studies focusses on the wide range of media and performance found in contemporary culture, including: conventional mass media such as television, film and video; digital media such as internet, social media, and games; mobile and/or location-based media; various forms of performance. We approach this broad field from a comparative perspective, focusing primarily on the position of emerging media within a culture in transition, as well as the relationship between media, culture, and society in a global context. The highly regarded Keuzegids Master's Selection Guide 2018 ranked Utrecht University's Media, Art and Performance Studies as the best in the field in the Netherlands. In the last edition of Elsevier Best Studies Survey, students have also rated Media, Art and Performance Studies as the best programme.
Study subjects -
Course objectives To prepare students for PhD studies. Graduates will also be eligible for positions in, for instance, academic or research institutes or cultural organisations requiring specific academic skills in media and performance.
