Youth Studies

Utrecht University

Master Postgraduate Utrecht

Course description

Qualification Master of Science
Field of study Humanities, social sciences, communication and arts
Course summary You will learn to observe and examine contemporary Youth issues by combining different social scientific disciplines (psychology, pedagogy, sociology, anthropology) in an interdisciplinary approach.
Course description Do you want to contribute to knowledge regarding youth issues, improve the quality of youth welfare, and develop ways to prevent or solve problems associated with adolescence and young adulthood? The Master's programme Youth Studies will enable you to look beyond the limits of single academic disciplines in approaching these problems. By integrating knowledge from different disciplines you will be able to advance fundamental understanding of youth issues and to address youth problems whose solutions are beyond the scope of a single discipline or area of research.
Study subjects Periods 1 and 2 provide you with the basic knowledge of interventions and policies by means of, among other things, guest lectures by academics from the field. During the Master's thesis course (period 3 & 4) you will write a complete empirical paper, and during your internship, you will do work that is comparable to the work of a beginning junior in the professional field.
