Course summary The world we live in is an increasingly urban one as cities currently account for half the world's population.
Course description By 2030, it is expected that three out of every five people will live in an urban environment. Sustainable management of the urban environment has become one of the major challenges of the 21st century as you will learn during the two-year Master Urban Environmental Management programme at the university. This development calls for control of the environmental impacts of urbanisation like growing traffic, increasing waste emissions, deteriorating air and water quality, and growth in energy and resource consumption.
Study subjects Majors include: Urban Environmental Management (Environmental Quality Assurance Systems); Infrastructure Services Provision; Sustainable Planning and Management of the Urban Building Stock), Environmental Economics and Natural Resources; Environmental Policy; Environmental Systems Analysis; Environmental Technology; Geo-information Science and Management Studies.
Course objectives The programme equips students with the outlook, concept and tools to manage the urban environment. Graduates will have a solid understanding of the state of the art in urban environmental research, a cross-disciplinary outlook, and practical decision-making and problem solving skills.
